“Isshinkan” - Isshinkai Headquarters

porchbb.jpg

Isshinkan, our headquarters Dojo, is a permanent Dojo dedicated to the continued practice of Isshinkai Aikido. It is here that Students gather throughout the year for Seminars, Courses, Gradings, High-Grade Classes, and it’s where our Teachers train, learn and practice.  It’s also where Isshinkai Summer School is held every year.

Set in the beautiful Hampshire countryside, in the village of Fyfield near Andover, Isshinkan is surrounded by Japanese style gardens and fields.  It is our Haven of Peace.  We have a small orchard for camping and facilities in the dojo for you to stay as long as you need, should you live further afield.  It is within easy reach of London, Salisbury, Winchester, Stonehenge, Avebury and many sites of interest.

Staying at Isshinkan

Members and guests are always welcome to come and stay at Isshinkan, even if it’s just to get away for a day or two and recharge your batteries. It’s our Aikido home. We have space for camping in the orchard, plenty of floor space and a few futons, and a small number of comfy beds available to book from the Members Area.

The Founder of the Peace Pole Movement, Masahisa Goi Sensei, was a close friend of the Founder of Aikido, Morihei Ueshiba Sensei, or “O’Sensei” (Great Teacher) as he is known to Aikidoka worldwide.

At Isshinkan, we also follow O’Sensei’s example in referring to Aikido as “The Art of Peace”, and adhere to the spirit of that philosophy.

Here, Goi Sensei’s caligraphy was carved into cedar wood. The words “May Peace Prevail On Earth” were cut in Japanese, English, Sanskrit and Arabic, one on each face, before the pole was painted, capped with copper and planted during Summer School of August 2017.

And then, when winter came

And then, when winter came

There are Peace Poles all over the World, and many in Japan
